About me (Akeem)
Designing for people,not just screens.
I'm a designer based in Aurora, Colorado, crafting digital experiences & creating brands that feel intuitive, purposeful, and human.
With over a decade of experience working at the intersection of product strategy and UX design, I partner with organizations to understand real user needs and translate them into products people genuinely love to use.
When I'm not designing, you'll find me working on something in the garage or spending quality time with my family out here in Colorado.

Senior UX/UI Design Manager
Q2 Software — Austin, TX
Led a cross-functional design organization managing 6 designers, 2 engineers, 1 product owner, and 3 junior design managers. Over five years, I directed several organization-wide initiatives that changed how we approach design quality, documentation, and customer engagement.
- UI Excellence Initiative: We didn't just refresh colors & typography—we completely reimagined the platform to feel modern and premium. The result: 3-4 configurable themes that launched at our annual business conference, giving clients the ability to customize the platform to match their brand. This became a competitive differentiator and a feature clients actually celebrated.
- Design Documentation & Rollout: We led a phased rollout across our Consumer product suite, and by the end, we had majority adoption. This single initiative cut designer ramp-up time significantly and enabled teams to work more independently. Commercial and Back Office products were queued for Phase 2.
- Design Quality Standards: Every feature had to hit a SUS score of 77+ and meet WCAG compliance before shipping. This wasn't just a checkbox—it meant conducting multiple rounds of usability testing and customer surveys for each feature. It elevated our craft and built customer trust.
- Enterprise Customer Engagement: I owned quarterly client engagement strategy, presenting design system updates directly to enterprise accounts. This wasn't a one-way presentation—it was a dialogue about where we were going and whether customers wanted to adopt new capabilities. This work directly improved customer satisfaction.
- Talent Development: I mentored 3 junior design managers through their growth arc, guiding design leadership to help them grow into product leaders. I supported bi-weekly consults, roadmap planning, career development.
- Emerging Technology Evaluation: In Q4 2025 and Q1 2026, I evaluated ChatGPT Enterprise and Claude Code to explore how emerging AI tools could optimize our design and development processes.
UX/UI Designer
Q2 Software — Austin, TX
Designed and shipped 12+ features across our productized extensions suite while establishing the design rigor and user validation practices that would later scale across the organization.
- Design Quality & Measurement: I followed a strict SUS (System Usability Scale) baseline requirement of 77+ for all new and updated features. This meant conducting multiple rounds of usability testing and customer surveys across the entire feature lifecycle. We didn't ship anything that didn't hit that bar. This systematic approach to quality became the foundation for design standards for that suite.
- Accessibility as Standard Practice: We had WCAG 2.1 compliance across all productized extensions as well. Beyond just checking boxes, I conducted accessibility audits, remediated color contrast and keyboard navigation issues, and created accessibility guidelines documentation that made it easy for hand off to engineers.
- Component Library & Documentation: I built our foundational component library for the extensions and documented design patterns with rationale and implementation guidelines. This wasn't just a Figma file—it was a shared language between design and engineering documented in Confluence and JIRA for our sprints. This work directly reduced design-to-development iterations and prevented the classic misalignment that tanks product timelines.
- User Research & Iteration: I partnered closely with product and customer success teams to establish customer feedback loops. User interviews, surveys, analytics reviews—I translated all of that into design improvements and feature enhancements that actually moved the needle on how people used our product.
Senior Interactive Designer
Protect America — Austin, TX
Owned design and optimization of high-traffic pages for our marketing and sales funnel. My focus: testing, learning, and iterating based on data to enable our sales teams.
I ran A/B testing experiments on conversion-critical pages, improving conversion rates across the portfolio. Those improvements of course translated to revenue—a clear reminder that good design isn't just about aesthetics, it's about moving business metrics.
Using data to prioritize which pages to redesign next and how to refine messaging and positioning became my default way of thinking about design impact.
Creative Director
Strategis Advertising — Stoughton, MA
Led creative direction and production for digital and traditional campaigns across 10+ client accounts. Managed a team of 2-3 designers through the full project lifecycle—from initial brainstorms through final delivery.
Designed websites, landing pages, and digital assets across WordPress, HubSpot, and Umbraco platforms. I developed brand strategies for clients and presented marketing recommendations that directly influenced their business decisions. This role taught me how to think like a strategist, not just a designer.
Web / Graphic Designer
Division of Student Affairs — Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA
Designed print materials, web assets, and campaigns for 8 offices within the Division of Student Affairs. I managed the full lifecycle from concept development and creative direction through final production. This was my first design role and taught me the fundamentals of creative problem-solving under deadline.
